Flights
to Croatia – getting to your property
Scheduled,
chartered and discount flights to Zadar:
Zadar
airport is the nearest one to our properties, with the average
driving time of around 30 min. Split airport is the second nearest
with around 1 1/2 hours drive from Kozino and Petrcane. Croatia
Airlines flies from Heathrow to Zadar (via Zagreb) several times
a week, with Tuesday and Thursday flights being the most convenient
ones in terms of short waiting time at Zagreb airport. This
is not a cheap flight, on average around £240 for a return
adult ticket, with child discounts available.
Sunsail
charter flights operate between Gatwick and Zadar every Sunday
from late April to October - seats that are available on flight-only
basis are subject to last minute availability. Prices vary between
£150-210 return and there are no child seats are not discounted.
In
summer season Zadar is also served by direct scheduled flights
from Amsterdam, Zurich Munich (all with Croatia Airlines) and
Vienna. Zurich and Amsterdam flights are especially convenient
if arriving from a destination outside the UK, like USA or Asia.
Budget airline Ryanair now flies from Stansted, Edinburgh and
Dublin to Zadar several times a week, between May and October.
Prices start from very low but expect to pay around £180
in high season and during school holidays.
Scheduled,
chartered and discount flights to Zagreb:
Alternatively,
you might prefer to get a flight to Zagreb or Split, and drive
to Kozino or Petrcane. Zagreb is the capital of Croatia and
also worth visiting. This option would make the flight, if not
very cheap, with average return fares of around £180,
then a bit more economical and convenient, as Croatia Airlines
flies from Heathrow to Zagreb at least seven times a week. The
drive to Zadar along the brand new motorway takes around two
and a half hours, with parts of it being very scenic. It is
also possible to visit the famous Plitvice Lakes National Park
along the route (allow an extra hour for detour from the motorway
as the park actually lies along the old route, as well as at
least couple of hours to be spent in the area). If driving during
summer school holidays, especially weekends, be aware of possible
queues for the Sveti Rok tunnel. Visit our car hire page for
more information on driving through Croatia.
Budget airline
Wizzair flies from Luton to Zagreb three times a week.
Scheduled,
chartered and discount flights to Split:
The
drive from Split airport to our properties takes around one
and a half hours - - add at least an extra hour if driving along
the old coastal road, which we definitely recommend, unless
you are in a hurry or arriving late in the day. Croatia Airlines
operates scheduled flights to Split from both Gatwick and Manchester
several times a week. It also flies from Heathrow to Split every
Saturday. The cost of this flight varies between £150-£260
adult return, depending on availability. Children over two years
of age get a 30% discount on full adult fares. Remember, the
sooner your book your ticket, the cheaper it is going to work
out.
There
are also several direct charter flights to Split
airport from Gatwick, Stanstead, Norwich, Birmingham and Bristol
during tourist season. A couple of budget airlines now fly to
Split from UK airports: Wizzair flies from Luton, and Easyjet
has flights from Gatwick, twice a day four days a week.
Scheduled,
chartered and discount flights to Dubrovnik, Pula and Rijeka
(Krk):
It
is possible to fly to all of the above airports and still easily
reach your property within a day -the drive from Rijeka (Krk
airport) now takes around three hours, and the drive from both
Dubrovnik and Pula to Zadar would take around five hours. Some
of the carriers, notably Croatia Airlines, do allow for different
arrival and departure airports within Croatia. This is especially
convenient if you wish to drive through the country and stay
in more than one place, as you then would not have to drive
back to the airport you arrived at. Several carriers operate
flights to Pula, Rijeka and Dubrovik from the UK, notably British
Airways (from Gatwick), Easyjet (departing from Gatwick), Wizzair
(Luton departures) and Ryanair (Stansted, Edinburgh and Dublin).
There
are often last minute discount offers on all of the above flights
to Croatia - follow the links on the right to search for best
last minute fares. Alternatively you can contact the carriers
directly to check for their best offers - the links and booking
office contact numbers can be found at the bottom of this page.
More
on budget and value flights to Croatia:
There
are several cheap budget flights to Croatia at present time
(see above). In adition, main scheduled carriers like Croatia
Airlines and British Airways often offer good value deals if
booked long in advance. Sometimes there are also some good value
last-minutes offers with some of the charter flights operating
between UK and Croatia, mostly to Split, Dubrovnik and Pula
airports but also to Zadar and Rijeka. These discounted fares
are usually subject to last minute availability. To search for
those discount flights it is a good idea to contact one of the
UK all-around flight agents (or visit their websites through
the links on the right hand side). Alternatively the flights
can usually be booked directly with the charter companies -see
bottom of this pages for links and contact numbers.
With
regards to neighbouring Slovenia, the most
convenient budget flight is the Easyjet
flight from London Stanstead to Ljubljana airport. The average
drive time from Ljubljana to Zadar is about three to three and
a half hours. Click here
for contact numbers of car rental companies with offices at
Ljubljana airport.
Several
major European carriers, such as Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines,
Czech Airlines, Alitalia, Sabena and Malev fly to Split from
various UK airports. None of those flights is a direct flight
and there is usually a two or three-hour wait for connecting
flights in both directions. Please contact your flight agent
for more details. We have found the website www.cheapflights.co.uk
to be a good starting point when searching for flights and flight
brokers in the UK.
Another
way of getting to Croatia is via Italy, as there are
several budget airline flights to convenient Italian airports.
Trieste airport (budget flights with Ryanair from Stanstead
www.ryanair.com)
is the one nearest to Croatia - although the driving time to
North Dalmatia and to our properties is around five hours, the
road offers some fantastic scenery as it mostly follows the
coastline. We are also able to assist with arranging hotel accommodation
en route, should you wish to do some exploring first and spend
the night or two somewhere along the way - please call us for
more details on possible
routes.
Alternative
Italian airports with budget flights from the UK are Venice
Marco Polo (Go BA from Stanstead, East Midlands, Bristol and
Luton,
www.go-fly.com) and Venice Treviso (Ryanair from Stanstead),
both with an extra two hours driving time; Ancona (Ryanair
from Stanstead), with ferry www.jadrolinija.hr
, and hydrofoil www.miatours.hr
links to both Zadar and Split ports; Pescara (Ryanair
from Stanstead) a short drive away from Ancona.
NOTE:
if hiring a car in Italy not all car-hire companies allow cross-border
traffic to Croatia. Please refer to our Car
hire page for more details.
