Motovun,
a town in the central part of the Istrian penninsula,
is built on a hill in a quiet and fertile river
valley. Its attraction lies mainly in its mediaeval
architecture, with well-preserved city walls that
offer great views of the surrounding vineyards and
the forest. These green surroundings offer good
walking, cycling and riding opportunities.
The Motovun Forest is also well know for truffles,
especially the famous Istrian white truffle - "The
days of the truffles" festival takes place
in October, providing an oportunity to sample and
taste this great delicacy.
Motovun
Film Festival - a festival of independend
and small production film, takes place in Motovun
every year at the end of July / beginning of August.
The
accommodation we have chosen in Motovun is a family-run
hotel Kastel. This intimate (28 rooms and two
hotel suites) hotel is situated in a converted
18th century palace. Conveniently located at the
main town square and on top of the hill, the hotel
premises offer some of the best views in town.
